Google makes AI image search more conversational

Google is updating its AI Mode for image search, enabling users to find images with conversational and vague descriptions. The Verge reports that the feature aims to make online shopping feel more natural. According to a company announcement, users can describe what they are looking for “like the way you’d talk to a friend”. This replaces the need to use traditional filters for color or brand.

The system allows for follow-up questions to refine results. For example, a search for jeans can be narrowed down by asking for a specific length or wash. Google states that AI Mode will then provide a relevant set of shoppable products. Users can also combine images and text for their search. The update uses Google’s Gemini 2.5 model and is currently rolling out in English to users in the United States.
