Google Meet gets AI note-taking for Pro and Ultra subscribers

Google has added an AI-powered note-taking feature to Google Meet. The official announcement explains that Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can now use “Take notes for me” on web and mobile. Eligible Google Workspace business customers also have access.

The feature uses Gemini to transcribe conversations and generate a structured meeting summary with key action items. Notes are automatically saved to a Google Doc in the organizer’s Google Drive and attached to the corresponding Google Calendar event. The meeting organizer also receives an email with the summary shortly after the call ends.

How it works

  • During a meeting: click the pencil icon at the top of the Meet window to start note-taking.
  • In settings: enable the feature under Meeting records in Google Meet settings to activate it for all calls automatically.
  • In Google Calendar: turn it on when creating or editing an event via Video call options.

All meeting participants are notified when the feature is active. Internal participants can stop note-taking at any time, though when host controls are enabled, only the host and co-hosts can start or stop it.

The feature supports eight languages: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. It does not currently support meetings where multiple languages are spoken. Google recommends meetings of 15 minutes to eight hours for best results.

Hosts can control who receives the notes. Options include all invited guests, only internal participants, or hosts and co-hosts exclusively. Notes are shared with everyone listed on the calendar invite, not only those who attended.
