Google Pixel 11 puts Gemini agents and AI camera tools at the center

Google is positioning the Pixel 11 family less as a hardware refresh and more as a vehicle for Gemini features that can act across apps, handle routine requests and reshape how photos are processed. The new phones introduce agent-like Gemini tasks, expanded translation tools and AI camera functions, while the Pixel Watch 5 extends Google’s AI strategy to health and wearable software.

The Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL run on Google’s Tensor G6 chip. Google says the processor improves power efficiency, browsing performance and the speed at which the phones run newer AI models. The company has not provided detailed latency figures for on-device Gemini features, but the chip also supports faster low-light photography and higher zoom capabilities on the Pro models.

Gemini takes on more tasks

Gemini’s most significant change is its shift toward completing actions instead of only answering questions. According to Ivan Mehta’s report for TechCrunch, US users will be able to ask Gemini to order groceries, book rides or arrange coffee orders. The assistant can also call businesses to seek restaurant reservations or appointments. Google says users can interrupt these actions and review transcripts of AI-operated calls.

Google is also adding connections to third-party services. The planned list includes productivity and note-taking apps such as Granola and Otter.ai, alongside travel, ticketing, home services and healthcare platforms. The practical value will depend on which services are available in each market and how reliably Gemini completes multi-step requests.

Magic Cue, a feature that surfaces relevant information, now draws context from more apps. Google says it can suggest useful details, such as possible dinner locations or entertainment options, based on information already present on the device.

Other AI tools target communication and accessibility. The Pixel 11 can translate videos, podcasts and voice messages into another language. A camera-based feature uses Gemini to convert sign language into text. Google has also refreshed Live Transcribe, its speech-to-text interface, and is bringing its Rambler dictation product to the phones.

Camera AI moves from correction to creative control

Google’s camera strategy is also changing. Magic Capture records a large number of frames between a user’s start and stop commands, then selects and prepares the strongest still images. Google says it can crop and reduce blur automatically, effectively creating shareable photos from video capture.

Camera Looks is a more fundamental change. As David Imel writes for The Verge, the feature changes processing choices early in the image pipeline rather than applying a conventional filter after the photo is made. Users can select styles that reduce frame merging, sharpening or dynamic-range correction. The result may look less technically polished, but closer to the softer, lower-contrast or more imperfect aesthetic some users seek.

The Pixel Watch 5 applies the same broader strategy of placing Gemini in everyday workflows. Victoria Song reports for The Verge that Gemini can perform simple tasks offline, including starting timers and opening apps, though offline responses were slower in a demonstration. It can also proactively suggest actions, such as checking a calendar after receiving a message about availability.

Google is pairing those assistant features with AI-supported health insights, including blood pressure and insulin resistance trends. The company stresses that neither feature provides a diagnosis or direct measurement. They analyze longer-term patterns and are intended as wellness alerts.

Access to advanced Gemini capabilities may become more consequential as Google adds these features. Damien Wilde reports for 9to5Google that Google is reducing the bundled Google One AI Pro trial for Pixel 11 Pro models from 12 months to six months, while the standard Pixel 11 receives no free trial. The change could make subscription status a more important part of the Pixel AI experience.
