YouTube wants AI to help creators write, edit, test, and reach new viewers

YouTube is expanding its artificial intelligence tools for creators, adding features for script analysis, video testing, and live translation as the platform works to retain major digital talent.

At its Made on YouTube event, the company announced an AI storytelling assistant that can assess scripts and rough cuts using signals from a creator’s own channel performance. The tool is intended to help creators identify approaches that have worked with their audiences before they publish a finished video.

The announcement comes as streaming services, particularly Netflix, seek partnerships with established YouTube creators. Ben Fritz reports for The Wall Street Journal that YouTube is positioning new production and audience tools as part of its response to that competition.

Tools for production and distribution

YouTube is also introducing a video A/B-testing tool. Creators will be able to publish different versions of a video, compare their performance, and remove the weaker-performing cut. The feature could give creators a more direct way to test editing choices, pacing, openings, or other creative decisions with actual viewers.

For live content, YouTube plans to offer AI-powered dubbing from English into Spanish. The company describes the capability as an initial step toward automated translation into additional languages. If the tool works reliably, it could help livestreamers reach audiences without producing separate language versions themselves.

The platform is also adding tools for microdramas, short episodic series built for YouTube Shorts. These series can play sequentially, offering creators a format designed for serialized vertical video.

On the viewer side, YouTube is rolling out Custom Feeds, which use large language models to build temporary homepage feeds from natural-language requests. Reece Rogers writes for WIRED that users can save several of these feeds while keeping their standard homepage intact. For creators, the feature may create new paths to discovery when viewers ask for specific subjects, formats, lengths, or moods.
