Perplexity has launched “Computer”, an AI agent platform that coordinates 19 different AI models to complete complex tasks. The product is currently available to Perplexity Max subscribers at $200 per month, with plans to expand to Pro and Enterprise users.
Computer accepts a high-level objective from a user, breaks it into subtasks, and assigns each subtask to the model best suited for it. The system runs in a cloud-based sandbox rather than on a user’s local machine. Perplexity says this approach limits security risks that have affected other agent tools. The platform uses Claude Opus 4.6 for orchestration and coding, Gemini for research, Grok for lightweight tasks, and GPT-5.2 for long-context recall, among others.
The product reflects a broader argument Perplexity is making about how AI is developing. The company says its enterprise usage data shows that no single model now accounts for more than 25 percent of tasks across its business customers, down from two models dominating over 90 percent of usage in early 2025. Perplexity executives argue this shows that models are specializing rather than converging.
