Artificial intelligence could revolutionize the world of work in much the same way that the first computers did, writes Ben Thompson in his blog Stratechery. He compares the current situation to the introduction of mainframe computers in the 1960s, which replaced many accountants and clerks.
He argues that in the long run, AI systems such as “agents” could take over entire jobs, much like the first computers did. However, this would still require significant investment and adaptation in companies. In the short term, he sees the greatest opportunities for AI in the corporate sector, rather than with consumers. He does not expect AI to be widely used in everyday life until the next generation.
