OpenAI’s planned rebrand faces internal opposition

OpenAI is apparently planning a radical change to its logo. According to Fortune, employees were presented with a new design in a company-wide meeting: a large black ring or the number zero. The logo was met with disapproval by many employees, who found it grim and uncreative.

The redesign began about a year ago and is being done by an internal team. According to Fortune’s sources, the new design could be introduced as early as next year, coinciding with planned changes to the company’s structure. OpenAI justifies the redesign by saying that the fonts currently in use are licensed. The existing hexagonal flower icon, which represents precision and optimism, was developed internally and is popular with employees.
