Meta launches Mac app as Meta AI gains business integrations

Meta has released a dedicated Mac app for Meta AI, extending its chatbot from the web and mobile devices to Apple’s desktop platform. Emma Roth reports for The Verge that the app can view a shared application window and users can ask questions, receive suggestions, or generate content related to their current work. The Mac app also supports dictation in all applications, allowing users to speak prompts instead of typing them.

The release reflects Meta’s effort to position its chatbot as a workplace assistant rather than only a consumer-facing tool. Competitors already offer comparable desktop features. Google’s Gemini app can access a shared window, while desktop apps from OpenAI and Anthropic can, in some cases, control parts of a user’s computer.

Meta is also expanding what its AI can do for businesses and creators. The company says Meta AI can now connect directly with Instagram and Facebook accounts, Meta advertising campaigns, and Google Workspace.

For social media teams, the assistant can review post performance, including reach, likes, shares, and saves. Meta says it can then suggest possible next posts based on those results. It can also combine information from a business account with web research to create presentations, documents, and spreadsheets.

The company further says Meta AI can handle repeated work, such as producing weekly performance summaries. The usefulness of these features will depend on how reliably the assistant interprets account data and how much access organisations are prepared to grant it.
