Google has launched voice conversation capabilities for its AI Mode search feature in the United States. The new “Search Live” function allows users to engage in back-and-forth spoken dialogue with Google’s artificial intelligence system. This development was reported by TechCrunch journalist Aisha Malik.
Users can access the feature through the Google app by tapping a “Live” icon and asking questions aloud. The AI responds with generated audio, and users can follow up with additional questions. The system continues working in the background while users operate other apps.
Google’s AI Mode uses a customized version of its Gemini model with advanced voice capabilities. The feature competes directly with similar offerings from Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search. Google positions the tool as particularly useful for multitasking situations, such as packing for travel while seeking packing advice.
Future updates will include camera-based questioning capabilities, allowing users to ask about objects their phone cameras capture in real time.
