Google has officially launched a feature that adds links in AI Overviews directing users to Google’s own search results. Barry Schwartz from Search Engine Land reports that this update aims to help users explore topics more easily. According to a Google spokesperson, the links appear when their systems determine it might be useful for users. The feature follows testing that showed users often manually search for certain terms after viewing AI Overviews. Google claims this enhances the search experience by reducing the need for new queries. The update is currently available in English in the U.S. on both mobile and desktop. Publishers may be concerned as this could potentially direct even more traffic back to Google rather than to third-party websites.
