ChatGPT service restored after morning-long outage

OpenAI’s ChatGPT experienced a significant service disruption this morning, affecting both the web interface and API access. According to Kyle Wiggers from TechCrunch, the company acknowledged the problem at 5:12 a.m. Pacific time on their status page. OpenAI identified the root cause within an hour and implemented a fix by 7:09 a.m. The AI chatbot platform is now operational again, with the company actively monitoring the system for any remaining issues. This outage follows a similar disruption in December, which affected multiple OpenAI services including ChatGPT, their API, and Sora video generator. During that incident, service restoration took approximately three hours, with the company later attributing the problem to bugs in a new telemetry service.
