ChatGPT introduces Projects feature to help users organize conversations and files

OpenAI has launched a new organizational feature called Projects for its ChatGPT platform, currently available to Plus, Pro, and Teams subscribers. The tool allows users to group related conversations, files, and instructions within dedicated spaces, addressing the common challenge of managing multiple AI interactions.

The Projects feature appears in ChatGPT’s sidebar, where users can create new projects by assigning names and colors for easy identification. Within each project, users can upload relevant documents, add existing conversations, and set specific instructions for ChatGPT to follow during interactions. The system maintains context awareness within project spaces, eliminating the need to repeatedly explain background information in new conversations.

According to OpenAI, the feature integrates with existing ChatGPT capabilities including SearchGPT, Canvas, and Voice Mode. The company plans to expand file support and add connections to cloud storage services like Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive in the future. While currently limited to paying subscribers, OpenAI has indicated that Projects will eventually be available to free users, though no specific timeline has been announced.
