Canva unveils Visual Suite 2.0 with AI and spreadsheet features

Canva has announced its largest product update yet, Visual Suite 2.0, during its Canva Create 2025 event. The new suite introduces several AI-powered features aimed at bridging the gap between productivity and creativity.

A centerpiece of the update is Canva Sheets, a new spreadsheet tool that incorporates AI capabilities like Magic Insights and Magic Formulas to simplify data analysis and visualization. The platform now allows users to connect live data from services like Google Analytics and HubSpot, transforming it into interactive visualizations through Magic Charts.

The company has also introduced Canva AI, an assistant that helps users create designs through voice, text, or media prompts. A new feature called Canva Code enables users to build interactive elements without coding knowledge, allowing them to create items like interactive maps or custom calculators that can be embedded in designs. For this feature, Canva has partnered with Anthropic.

Enhanced photo editing capabilities

The update includes more powerful photo editing tools that let users modify images without switching between applications. Features include a Background Generator and point-and-click editing that allows repositioning, replacing, removing, or resizing elements within photos.

While Canva’s co-founder Cameron Adams views AI integration as an opportunity rather than a threat to creative jobs, the expansion of AI in design tools continues to raise concerns among artists about unauthorized use of their work for training AI models and potential job displacement.

According to TechCrunch, Canva recently laid off technical writing staff, though Adams stated this was due to restructuring rather than AI implementation.
