Canva integrates with Google Gemini for in-chat design creation

Canva has launched an integration with Google Gemini, allowing users to create and edit designs directly within the AI assistant’s chat interface. Canva reports that the new connection is powered by its MCP Server and enables users to generate designs, search existing content, edit text and images, and resize layouts for different platforms, all without leaving the Gemini app.

The integration follows similar rollouts with Claude, ChatGPT, and Microsoft Copilot, reflecting the company’s stated goal of embedding design tools into the AI platforms people already use.

To get started, users connect their Canva account to Gemini and type “@Canva” to activate the feature. The connection is described as secure, keeping designs and account data private and synchronised.

For teams using Canva Enterprise, the integration supports automatic template population using context drawn from Gemini conversations. Users can also reference a Canva Brand Kit within a prompt so that generated designs automatically apply the correct colours, fonts, and visual identity.

A feature called Magic Layers extends these capabilities further. It takes an image generated inside Gemini and converts it into an editable Canva layout, separating visual elements into individual layers for fine-grained control.

Canva frames the broader effort as building an open design platform that removes the traditional gap between creative ideation and execution, placing design within the workflow rather than after it.
