Apple releases major AI updates across iOS, iPadOS and macOS with expanded international availability

Apple has launched significant updates to its operating systems, introducing new artificial intelligence features under the Apple Intelligence brand. The iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 updates are now available for compatible devices in six English-speaking countries: the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.

The updates bring several AI-powered features, including Image Playground, which allows users to generate images from text descriptions or existing photos, though it intentionally cannot create photorealistic images of people. Another addition is Genmoji, enabling users to create custom emoji through text descriptions or based on photos of friends. These features are available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 series, M-series Macs, M-series iPads, and the latest iPad mini with A17 Pro chip.

A notable integration is the addition of ChatGPT functionality to Siri and Writing Tools. Users can now utilize ChatGPT’s capabilities through Siri for tasks such as creating itineraries or workout plans, without requiring a separate ChatGPT account. The update also includes practical improvements like AirTag location sharing and the return of lock screen volume controls. Apple has announced plans to expand language support throughout 2025 to include additional languages such as Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Portuguese.
