Amazon wants AI agents to do the shopping

Amazon is developing AI-powered shopping assistants. They are designed to help customers buy products and make personalized recommendations, reports Will Knight for Wired. The company is training large language models with its own data to give the AI agents the knowledge they need about products and customer preferences.

The first steps toward AI agents are chatbots that proactively recommend products. In the long term, however, the agents should also be able to add items to shopping carts or even place orders on their own. Amazon is already experimenting with AI-generated shopping guides and is testing the possibility of integrating advertising into the models’ recommendations.
