Mark Zuckerberg outlines Meta’s vision for personal superintelligence

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the company’s goal to develop personal superintelligence for everyone. In a recent post, he described a future where this technology acts as an individual assistant to empower people.

Zuckerberg’s vision is distinct from a future where a central AI automates most jobs. He argued that progress has always come from people pursuing their individual aspirations. According to him, a personal AI would foster this by helping people achieve their goals, create new things, and grow personally.

He envisions this superintelligence integrated into personal devices like smart glasses. These devices would understand a user’s context by seeing and hearing what they do, making them highly effective assistants. This would shift people’s focus from productivity software towards creativity and human connection.

Zuckerberg believes this technology will accelerate progress in science and health. He also acknowledged that superintelligence will create new safety concerns that require rigorous mitigation. He noted that Meta would need to be careful about what technology it chooses to open source.

The coming years will be a decisive period, according to Zuckerberg. He stated this time will determine whether the technology becomes a tool for personal empowerment or a force that replaces large parts of society.
