Meta Platforms Inc. has purchased PlayAI, a startup specializing in artificial intelligence for voice generation. According to an article by Kurt Wagner for Bloomberg, the acquisition is part of Meta’s major investment in AI. The entire PlayAI team will join Meta to advance its work on voice technology.
The company stated in an internal memo that PlayAI’s expertise in creating natural voices is a “great match” for Meta’s own goals. These goals include developing AI Characters, the Meta AI assistant, and wearables. The acquisition supports Meta’s larger strategy, which focuses on building advanced AI models and features. Meta confirmed the deal but did not disclose the financial terms of the purchase.
