YouTube will add Google’s most advanced AI video generator, Veo 3, to its Shorts platform later this summer. CEO Neal Mohan announced the integration at the Cannes Lions festival, as reported by Alex Weprin for The Hollywood Reporter. The AI tool can create both videos and sound from text prompts. Mohan said the technology will “push the limits of human creativity” and help creators “open new creative lanes.”
YouTube already uses an older version of Veo for background generation. The company has partnered with talent agency CAA to develop controls for celebrities over their digital likeness. Shorts now receives over 200 billion daily views as YouTube competes with TikTok and Instagram Reels. Veo 3 videos have already gone viral on social media, including content imagining historical figures as modern vloggers.
