UK plans new transparency rules for AI training data

The UK government is launching a consultation on new regulations that would require AI companies to be more transparent about the data they use to train their models. According to a report by Daniel Thomas and Anna Gross in the Financial Times, the proposal includes an exemption to copyright laws for AI training purposes, unless rights holders explicitly opt out. Culture Minister Sir Chris Bryant emphasized that AI companies would need to clearly disclose their training data sources and label AI-generated content. The plan aims to balance the interests of tech companies seeking legal clarity with creative industries concerned about protecting their work. The government is considering various enforcement mechanisms, including potential legislation or a new regulatory body to oversee compliance.
