How AI tools have changed my work as a content creator

The hype around AI is certainly overblown at the moment. But that doesn’t change the fact that AI tools have permanently and profoundly changed the way I work as a content creator.

By way of background, I am a journalist by training. Since 1999, I’ve worked almost exclusively online, and since 2015, mainly as a content strategist, content marketer, and content creator for businesses.

My main tasks: Developing concepts, finding ideas, researching topics, writing articles, improving texts and preparing them well.

And in all of these areas, I am now assisted by one AI or another.

I mainly use AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini. I have them all under one interface thanks to TypingMind.

Where do they come in handy? Finding topics is one example. For me, AI is the versatile, always available colleague for developing new ideas. I can even give it a list of all the articles I have already written on a topic and ask for more and additional ideas. One click, a few seconds of waiting, and the results start pouring in.

When I’ve finally decided on a topic, I explain to my assistants what it’s about, what it’s for, who it’s for, and ask for a possible outline. Sometimes the first version is good enough. Sometimes I develop it further together with the AI. This helps me a lot when I start a more complex article.

If I get stuck at a point in my writing, I ask my assistant for a draft of the text for that section. In such situations, it is much easier for me to improve an existing text. The AI delivers it to me and I continue working.

Once I’ve finished a post, I give it to the AI and ask for feedback. Have I covered all the important points? What should I clarify? I often get valuable additional ideas.

Other examples:

  • DeepL helps me with translations.
  • DeepL Write helps me to quickly improve texts
  • Kagi Universal Summarizer summarizes articles, PDFs, videos, podcasts with one click
  • Or I take a detailed piece of content, like a scientific paper, and the AI helps me prepare it as an article.

In other words: I don’t let the AI do the work. I let the AI assist me.

And sometimes that feels like a superpower.
