Getty Images and OpenAI strike display partnership

Getty Images will place its vast archive of licensed visual content directly inside ChatGPT. The Getty Images Newsroom announces that a new display agreement with OpenAI will embed Getty’s images into the search and discovery experiences of the chatbot. The deal aims to make AI-powered visual answers richer and more reliable.

Under the partnership, users who ask ChatGPT for visual content will see rights-cleared Getty Images material within the responses. The agreement covers display use only and does not extend to model training. Craig Peters, Chief Executive Officer at Getty Images, states, “High-quality, licensed visual content makes AI-powered search and discovery more useful and more trustworthy. This partnership with OpenAI reflects a shared recognition of that, and together we will deliver richer visual experiences to ChatGPT users.”

Getty Images has consistently advocated for copyright-respecting AI practices. The company’s choice to limit the partnership to display, not training data, reinforces that position. Financial terms were not disclosed. The collaboration signals a broader trend: visual marketplaces and AI developers joining forces to bring licensed assets into everyday professional tools.
