YouTube stops monetization for AI-generated fake movie trailers

YouTube has suspended the monetization privileges of two popular channels specializing in AI-generated fake movie trailers. According to an investigation by Jake Kanter at Deadline, the channels Screen Culture and KH Studio will no longer earn advertising revenue from their content. The Google-owned platform cited violations of its monetization policies, which require creators to significantly transform borrowed material and prohibit misleading content. Screen Culture has gained popularity by creating convincing fake trailers that imitate official marketing materials while incorporating AI imagery for unreleased films like “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Meanwhile, KH Studio produces fictional trailers featuring unexpected celebrity castings. Deadline’s investigation revealed that some Hollywood studios had been quietly claiming the ad revenue from these videos rather than removing them for copyright infringement. The channels can appeal YouTube’s decision.
