xAI raises $6 billion in new funding round

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has secured $6 billion in new funding from 97 investors, according to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Thursday. Kyle Wiggers reports for TechCrunch that the minimum investment was $77,593, with expected participants including Valor Equity Partners, Sequoia Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz. The funding doubles xAI’s total raised capital to $12 billion and comes as the company expands its AI model Grok, which powers various features on X (formerly Twitter). The company has grown from 12 to over 100 employees since March 2024 and operates from a data center in Memphis containing 100,000 Nvidia GPUs. xAI reportedly plans to release a standalone consumer app and is currently generating approximately $100 million in annual revenue.
