British creative organizations have united against a government proposal that would allow AI companies to use copyrighted works without explicit permission. According to Robert Booth’s report in The Guardian, the Creative Rights in AI Coalition, representing thousands of artists, writers, and media companies, rejected the plan announced by technology minister Chris Bryant. The proposal would permit companies like OpenAI and Google to train AI systems on published works unless creators opt out. The coalition, including the British Phonographic Industry, major newspapers, and Getty Images, argues that existing copyright laws should be enforced rather than weakened. Notable artists Paul McCartney and Kate Bush have joined over 37,500 others in signing a petition against unauthorized use of creative works for AI training.
