A YC-backed startup has released BrowserOS, an open-source web browser that integrates AI agents to automate tasks. In a post on Hacker News, the two-person development team stated its goal is to provide a privacy-first alternative as AI agents gain access to sensitive user data. The browser runs these agents locally on a person’s computer, not on external servers, ensuring user data remains private. According to the developers, BrowserOS supports local Large Language Models and allows users to bring their own service keys to avoid monthly subscription costs. The browser is built directly on Chromium’s source code to match its security standards and includes an automatic update feature.
