An upcoming Mac application called Sky promises to revolutionize desktop automation by combining artificial intelligence with natural language processing. The app, developed by the creators of Apple’s Shortcuts app, allows users to control their Mac and perform complex tasks simply by typing commands in everyday language.
Federico Viticci from MacStories reports that Sky can understand what applications are open on a user’s screen and perform actions based on their contents. Users can ask the app to summarize web articles and send them via Messages, organize messy file folders, or create calendar events from flight information displayed in email applications.
The software works with any Mac application, including web browsers, email clients, and productivity tools. Unlike traditional automation tools that require programming knowledge, Sky interprets natural language requests and translates them into system actions. The app uses GPT 4.1 or Claude AI models to understand user intentions and determine appropriate responses.
Sky was developed by Ari Weinstein and Conrad Kramer, who previously created the Workflow app that Apple acquired and transformed into Shortcuts. Their new company, Software Applications Incorporated, has been working on Sky in secret since 2023.
The application is currently in closed alpha testing and is expected to launch later this year with both free and subscription tiers. Advanced users can create custom tools using AppleScript, shell scripts, or Shortcuts to extend the app’s capabilities. Sky represents a significant step toward making desktop automation accessible to non-technical users through conversational interfaces.
