ByteDance has released Seedance 2.0, an artificial intelligence model that generates videos from text prompts. The system can process text, images, audio, and video simultaneously. ByteDance states the technology is designed for professional film, e-commerce, and advertising productions.
The model has generated significant attention on social media. One viral video depicted a rooftop fight between actors Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, created with a two-line prompt by Irish filmmaker Ruairi Robinson. Other circulating videos feature content based on Spider-Man, Titanic, Stranger Things, Lord of the Rings, and Shrek.
On Chinese social media platform Weibo, hashtags related to Seedance 2.0 have accumulated tens of millions of views. State-backed newspaper Global Times compared the release to DeepSeek’s earlier impact.
The Motion Picture Association has criticized the service. A spokesperson stated that Seedance 2.0 has engaged in unauthorized use of copyrighted works on a massive scale within a single day of availability. The organization called on ByteDance to immediately cease infringing activity and implement safeguards against copyright violations.
The MPA previously raised similar concerns about OpenAI’s Sora 2, which led to safeguards and a licensing deal with Disney covering 200 characters. ByteDance has not responded to requests for comment on copyright concerns.
