Qualcomm has announced its new Snapdragon X Platform at CES 2025 in Las Vegas, designed to bring artificial intelligence capabilities to personal computers starting at $600. The system combines an 8-core Oryon central processor, graphics components, and a dedicated AI chip capable of running Microsoft’s Copilot+ software. Major manufacturers including Dell Technologies and Lenovo Group plan to launch laptops based on these chips in early 2025.
The company’s expansion into the PC market represents CEO Cristiano Amon’s strategy to diversify beyond smartphone chips, where Qualcomm has traditionally held a strong position. The new chips promise extended battery life, with Qualcomm stating their processors can maintain full power even when devices are unplugged, unlike competitors’ products. The company reports over 60 device designs currently in production or development, with more than 100 additional designs expected by 2026.
Beyond personal computers, Qualcomm unveiled AI solutions for automotive applications, smart homes, and enterprise systems. In the automotive sector, the company announced collaborations with manufacturers like BMW and Sony Honda Mobility for its Snapdragon Digital Chassis solutions. For smart homes and enterprises, Qualcomm introduced the Qualcomm Aware Platform and AI On-Prem Appliance Solution, enabling businesses to run AI applications locally while potentially reducing operational costs compared to third-party infrastructure.
