Pinterest adds AI content labels and filtering options

Pinterest is introducing new features to help users identify and filter AI-generated content on its platform. Images created or edited with generative AI will now display an “AI modified” label in the bottom left corner when viewed up close. As reported by Jess Weatherbed in The Verge, Pinterest’s Chief Technology Officer Matt Madrigal stated that these measures aim to empower users to make informed choices about the content they encounter. The labels rely on metadata analysis and AI classifiers to detect generated content, with users able to appeal mislabeled pins. Additionally, Pinterest will soon launch an experimental feature allowing users to see fewer AI-generated images in certain categories like beauty and art. This addresses widespread user complaints about AI content dominating the platform and making it difficult to find authentic reference materials and purchasable products.
