Operative Games has unveiled its AI-driven interactive storytelling platform after emerging from stealth with backing from 1AM Gaming, Samsung Next, and LongJourney.vc. As reported by Dean Takahashi, the company was founded by Jon Snoddy, former head of Walt Disney R&D, Jon Kraft, founding CEO of Pandora Media, and game industry veteran Pegi Bryant. Their proprietary StoryEngine allows players to interact with AI characters through phone calls, texts, or video chats without requiring downloads. The company’s first experience, “The Operative,” involves players helping a character named Enya in what develops into a spy thriller. According to CEO Snoddy, their technology creates characters that understand context and form emotional connections with players. The Los Angeles-based company, which has 20 employees, began formal operations in 2022 after recognizing the potential of large language models for storytelling.
