Open-source AI platform OpenClaw has released version 2.0, its largest update so far. The release combines a simpler installation process, a redesigned browser app, and shared cloud sessions that let several people work with the same AI agent.
According to the OpenClaw Foundation, 933 contributors worked on the update, which includes more than 16,000 pull requests. The project says it delayed its usual rapid release cycle for nearly seven weeks to test the upgrade for both new and existing users.
The revised onboarding process looks for tools and credentials already available on a computer. These can include ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions, API keys, and locally installed models. Users can postpone much of the remaining configuration and complete it through conversations with their OpenClaw assistant.
A browser app centered on conversations
OpenClaw has rebuilt its browser app to open directly in a chat. From there, users can continue setup, resume work, and monitor tasks as they run. The Decoder reports that the interface also includes a Session Rail, which shows information such as task progress, ratings, and pull requests.
A companion thread allows users to ask about an active session without interrupting the main agent. According to the documentation cited by The Decoder, this feature uses a limited session snapshot and a separate utility model.
Shared Cloud Sessions are the other major addition. They allow users to bring colleagues into ongoing tasks or hand over work while preserving its context. OpenClaw says its own team uses the capability during development.
Sessions can run locally, on a user’s paired hardware, or on rented temporary machines provisioned through Crabbox. The project says provider credentials remain on the local gateway rather than being sent to remote systems.
