OpenAI is introducing Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) for paying ChatGPT users. The feature will first be available to Plus and Team subscribers in the US, followed by Enterprise and Edu customers next week. AVM features a new user interface represented by a blue animated sphere.
In addition to the redesign, OpenAI offers five new voices: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce and Vale. These complement the existing voices and are intended to make interactions with ChatGPT more natural. According to OpenAI, improvements have also been made to accent recognition and conversation flow.
The introduction of AVM was delayed due to controversy, including a striking resemblance to the voice of actress Scarlett Johansson. OpenAI stresses that extensive security testing has been conducted. In addition, the company is integrating the “Custom Instructions” and “Memory” functions into the AVM to enable personalized conversations. The availability of Advanced Voice Mode will be gradually expanded in various regions, with the exception of some European countries for the time being.
