OpenAI has launched a preview of a new mobile feature called ChatGPT Pulse for its Pro subscribers. This feature shifts the chatbot from answering direct questions to proactively delivering personalized information.
According to the company’s announcement, Pulse works by researching topics it deems relevant to the user. This process is based on an analysis of chat history, user feedback, and data from optionally connected applications like Google Calendar and Gmail. Each day, Pulse presents these findings as a set of visual cards. OpenAI states that these updates could include anything from follow-up information on a previous chat to ideas for dinner or reminders for an upcoming trip.
Users have control over the content Pulse delivers. They can provide feedback with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, or directly request specific topics for the next day. The connection to external apps like Google Calendar is off by default and can be managed in the settings.
This development is part of a broader industry trend toward creating “AI agents,” as reported by The Verge. These are assistants designed to take action on a user’s behalf. OpenAI acknowledges that Pulse is an early version and may not always provide perfectly relevant suggestions, emphasizing that user feedback is crucial for its improvement.
