Napkin AI creates graphics using specialized AI agent teams

A new AI-powered design tool called Napkin AI is changing how professionals create graphics by employing multiple specialized AI agents. According to an article by Matt Marshall in VentureBeat, the tool can generate customizable graphics from text input within five seconds. The system uses different AI agents to handle specific design tasks, similar to how traditional design agencies operate with different specialists.

The company’s approach differs from both traditional design software and current AI image generators. Instead of using diffusion models like other AI image tools, Napkin AI employs four distinct AI agents: one for text suggestions, one for layout decisions, one for icons and illustrations, and one for styling. These agents are coordinated by a main language model based on GPT-4.

Since its launch in August, Napkin AI has attracted 2 million beta users, doubling its user base in just six weeks, according to CEO Pramod Sharma. The platform particularly targets professionals who need to create graphics for presentations but lack advanced design skills.

The company raised $10 million in seed funding and operates with a remote team of 12 people. Users can edit the generated graphics for style, color, and design type, and export them in various formats including PNG, PDF, and SVG.
