Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI plans to increase its Colossus supercomputer capacity to more than 1 million graphics processing units. According to a report by Stephen Morris and Tabby Kinder in the Financial Times, the expansion will take place at the facility in Memphis, Tennessee. The current system, built in just three months, already operates with 100,000 Nvidia GPUs and is reportedly the world’s largest supercomputer cluster. The expansion project will receive support from technology companies Nvidia, Dell, and Supermicro Computer, while the Greater Memphis Chamber has committed to providing round-the-clock assistance to xAI. The expansion aims to help Musk’s company compete more effectively with AI leaders like OpenAI and Google in developing advanced language models.
