Microsoft introduces AI tools for research and data analysis

Microsoft has unveiled two “deep reasoning” AI agents called Researcher and Analyst for its Microsoft 365 Copilot platform. According to Richard Lawler from The Verge, these tools are designed to handle complex research tasks and data analysis. Researcher, powered by OpenAI’s deep research model, can conduct multi-step research and access third-party data from sources like Salesforce. Meanwhile, Analyst, based on OpenAI’s o3-mini reasoning model, can transform raw data into spreadsheets, run Python code, and generate comprehensive reports. Microsoft claims Analyst can operate at the level of a skilled data scientist. These tools will begin rolling out in April to Microsoft 365 Copilot license holders through an early access program, alongside new autonomous agent capabilities in Copilot Studio.
