Manus, the AI agent developed by the company of the same name, can now operate directly on users’ computers. The company writes in the official announcement that the new “My Computer” feature is part of the Manus Desktop application and enables the agent to access local files, applications, and development tools through terminal commands.
Previously, Manus operated exclusively in a cloud-based sandbox. That environment provided networking, a browser, and a file system, but it could not reach files or programs stored on a user’s own machine. My Computer closes that gap.
The feature works by executing command line instructions in the user’s local terminal. This allows Manus to read, edit, and organize files, as well as build and debug software. Manus claims a colleague used the tool to build a fully functional Mac application in Swift within 20 minutes, without manually writing a single line of code.
Users can also direct Manus to use their computer’s graphics processor for running or training machine learning models. Tasks can be assigned remotely from any device, as long as the target computer is running the Manus Desktop app.
Manus emphasizes that every terminal command requires explicit user approval before execution. Users can approve commands individually or grant standing permission for trusted tasks.
My Computer is available now for macOS and Windows.
