AI creative tools startup Krea has released the weights of its new image generation model Krea 2 as two public downloads: Krea 2 Raw and Krea 2 Turbo. Carl Franzen reports for VentureBeat that both models are available on Hugging Face and target a growing frustration in creative industries: AI-generated imagery that looks generic, predictable, and interchangeable.
Krea positions the release as an answer to what critics call “AI slop.” The company says its models offer more visual variety and better prompt accuracy than competing tools, along with significantly more room for customization.
Two models, two different purposes
- Krea 2 Raw is an unfinished, unaligned checkpoint taken from mid-training. It has no built-in aesthetic preferences, which makes it ideal for training custom styles and brand-specific fine-tunes. Designers can feed it their own visual language without interference from pre-baked stylistic choices.
- Krea 2 Turbo is a distilled, production-ready version that generates images in approximately 2 seconds. It is designed for rapid concept work and iterative creative exploration.
Krea recommends a specific workflow: train custom adaptations on Raw, then run them on Turbo for fast output. The company uses this approach internally and has built its own style tools around it.
Who can use it, and under what conditions
The models are free for individuals and small teams. Organizations needing more than 50 user seats, single sign-on, or custom data agreements must negotiate a paid enterprise license directly with Krea. API access is billed separately on a per-generation basis.
All users, regardless of size, must implement content filtering to block illegal material, non-consensual intimate imagery, and child sexual abuse material. Failing to do so puts users in breach of the license agreement.
Krea states it does not claim ownership over images generated with its models. Founded in 2022 and backed by investors including Andreessen Horowitz, the company reports a user base of 30 million people across 191 countries.
