Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt has issued a stark warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence for the entertainment industry, reports Erich Schwartzel for the Wall Street Journal. Speaking at the Wall Street Journal’s Tech Live conference in Laguna Beach, he criticized AI companies for using movies and TV shows to train their models without fairly compensating artists. The star of “Third Rock From the Sun” and “Inception” emphasized in a conversation with Stability AI CEO Prem Akkaraju that existing contracts should be renegotiated in light of the new technology. While acknowledging AI’s potential to democratize production costs, he warned of the risk of flooding the market with low-quality, profit-driven content. Stability AI assured they have taken precautions to prevent their models from creating images too similar to known actors or films.
