IBM’s AI not good enough for cost-cutting plans

IBM plans to replace thousands of jobs with artificial intelligence. But according to insiders, the company’s AI is not yet up to the task. Instead, it appears that experienced employees will be laid off and jobs will be outsourced to India, reports Thomas Claburn for The Register.

Several IBM employees have complained that the company’s in-house AI, WatsonX, lags far behind competing products and is barely used. The IT infrastructure is also outdated. IBM is at risk of losing key technical expertise due to the loss of experienced specialists. The company itself says that the number of employees will remain at about the same level as at the beginning of the year, despite job cuts at the end of the year.
