Google’s Lyria 3 Pro brings structure to AI-generated music

Google has expanded its AI music generation capabilities with the launch of Lyria 3 Pro, a model that creates tracks up to three minutes long. Myriam Hamed Torres writes for Google DeepMind that the model understands musical structure, allowing users to prompt for specific elements such as intros, verses, choruses, and bridges.

Lyria 3 Pro is available across several Google platforms. Businesses can access it through Vertex AI for large-scale audio production. Developers can use it via Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. Google Vids, the company’s AI-powered video creation app, also integrates both Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro, rolling out to Google Workspace customers and AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Paid subscribers of the Gemini app can now generate longer tracks directly within the app. ProducerAI, a collaborative music tool, offers the model globally to free and paid users.

Google states that Lyria 3 does not mimic specific artists. If a prompt names a creator, the model treats that as broad inspiration only. All outputs are embedded with SynthID, Google’s watermark for identifying AI-generated content. Training materials are limited to content Google has the right to use.

Grammy-winning producer Yung Spielburg and DJ François K have both used Lyria in their creative work. François K describes the model’s “fidelity and musicality” as remarkable progress.
