Google has launched a new image creation and editing tool called Google Pics. The app is built on Google’s Nano Banana AI model and combines generative AI with detailed editing controls.
The tool allows users to create images from scratch or edit existing photos. Key features include:
- Object segmentation: Select, move, resize or transform individual elements in an image without affecting the rest
- Text editing and translation: Modify or translate text within a photo while keeping the original font and style
- Workspace integration: Pics connects directly to Google Slides and Drive
- Collaborative editing: Multiple users can edit the same image at the same time
Google says the app is designed to give users precise creative control, avoiding the need to regenerate an entire image after a small change. Engadget notes the tool could be a competitor to Canva for poster design and social media content, though the publication has not yet tested it independently.
Google Pics is currently available to a limited group of Trusted Testers. Google says it will roll out globally this summer to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. A preview version is also planned for Google Workspace business customers.
