Google has made personalized AI image generation in its Gemini app available to all eligible users in the United States at no cost. Lauren Forristal reports for TechCrunch that the feature was previously restricted to paid subscribers on the Plus, Pro, and Ultra tiers.
The feature is part of Gemini’s Personal Intelligence functionality, which uses data from connected Google services to understand a user’s preferences and reflect them in generated content. Connected services can include Gmail, Google Photos, YouTube, and Google Search.
What this means in practice
Users no longer need to describe their preferences in detail when making image requests. Instead of writing a prompt like “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things, such as coffee and baking,” a user can simply ask Gemini to “Create an illustration of me and my favorite things.” The app fills in the rest based on what it already knows.
Gemini can also pull photos of the user directly from Google Photos, removing the need to upload images manually.
Personal Intelligence is an opt-in feature. Users choose which apps Gemini can access. Once activated, it applies by default to every prompt, but a toggle in the Tools menu allows users to turn it off at any time.
Google first introduced Personal Intelligence to U.S. users in March and has since expanded it to India and Japan.
