Google makes Gemini 4 Argon broadly available through its API and subscriptions

Google has begun the broad rollout of Gemini 4 Argon, making its latest frontier AI model available through the Gemini API and to paying users across several Google products. The move shifts Argon from limited access for selected partners and cyber defenders into wider commercial use.

Pro and Ultra subscribers can use Argon in the Gemini app and Google Search’s AI Mode. Ultra users also receive access through Antigravity, Google’s agent-focused development environment. According to Robert Hart’s report for The Verge, Google has not said whether the model will reach lower-cost Plus plans or free accounts. It seems unlikely: Google just recently changed which models are available in which pricing tier.

Argon is designed for extended, multi-step tasks rather than simple chat. Google positions it for software engineering, scientific research, financial and legal analysis, cybersecurity, robotics, and work involving documents, images, and video. Its standout technical feature is a one-million-token output window, which Google says can support long mathematical derivations, large code refactors, and extensive structured reports without splitting the work across many responses.

Claims of stronger agent performance

Google says Argon leads or matches competing models on several benchmarks. Its published results place it ahead of GPT-6 Astra, Claude Fable 5.1, and Claude Opus 5.5 on tests for knowledge work, legal agents, coding, long-context retrieval, and multimodal understanding. Results are more mixed in some coding, science, and computer-use evaluations.

In cybersecurity, Google reports that Argon ties for first place on CWE-Bench, a vulnerability-remediation test, with a score of 68%. The company also says it has strengthened defenses against indirect prompt injection and added monitoring intended to stop risky model actions.

Google is launching the API at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens. The Verge reports that these rates will double after November, though Google’s initial pricing remains below the cited rivals on a per-token basis.
