Google launches Veo 3.1 Lite, its most affordable video generation model

Google has added Veo 3.1 Lite to its Gemini API, positioning it as the most affordable model in the Veo 3.1 family. The company says the model targets developers building high-volume video applications.

According to Google, Veo 3.1 Lite costs less than 50% of Veo 3.1 Fast while offering the same generation speed. Pricing on the paid tier starts at $0.05 per second for 720p video and $0.08 per second for 1080p. The model does not support 4K output.

The model supports two input types:

  • Text-to-Video: A prompt describes the video
  • Image-to-Video: An image is the starting point

Developers can choose landscape (16:9) or portrait (9:16) aspect ratios and generate videos at 4, 6, or 8 seconds, with pricing adjusting based on duration.

Veo 3.1 Lite is available now through the Gemini API and Google AI Studio on the paid tier. Google also announced a price reduction for the mid-tier Veo 3.1 Fast model, set to take effect on April 7. The new pricing will bring costs for 720p output down from $0.15 to $0.10 per second.

Veo is already integrated into several Google products, including YouTube Shorts, Google Photos, Google Vids, and the Gemini app.
