Google Gemini assistant expands capabilities with multi-app support

Google has announced significant updates to its AI assistant Gemini, coinciding with Samsung’s Galaxy S25 launch event. The most notable change enables Gemini to execute tasks across multiple applications in a single interaction, while also becoming the default assistant on Samsung’s new flagship phones, replacing Bixby.

The enhanced Gemini Live feature now supports the integration of images, files, and YouTube videos in conversations on select devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 and S25 series, as well as Google’s Pixel 9. Users can share various media types with the AI assistant to receive feedback and information. The system also extends its functionality through app extensions, which now include Samsung’s native applications such as Calendar, Notes, Reminder, and Clock, alongside existing support for Google apps and select third-party services like WhatsApp and Spotify.

The multi-extension capability allows users to complete complex tasks with a single prompt, such as finding restaurants and sharing locations with contacts, or adding sports schedules to calendars. Google states that these multi-extension features are available to all Gemini users across web, Android, and iOS platforms. The integration particularly benefits Samsung Galaxy S25 users, who can access Gemini directly through a long press of the side button, though Bixby remains available as a pre-installed application.
