Google DeepMind and film studio A24 forge AI research partnership

Google DeepMind and the acclaimed film studio A24 are launching a research partnership designed to put AI tools directly into the hands of filmmakers. The collaboration pairs one of the world’s leading AI labs with a studio known for its creator-first approach. Google reports the initiative in its official blog, while Steven Zeitchik writes for The Hollywood Reporter that a joint venture will receive a $75 million investment from DeepMind.

“We believe the best way to develop tools that empower artists is to work directly with them,” Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis says in the blog post. “By collaborating with filmmakers and industry leaders like A24 from the beginning, we can build new AI features to support artists in authentic, meaningful storytelling.”

DeepMind has previously worked with individual directors such as Darren Aronofsky. This is the first time the lab partners with an entire studio. Google already offers the video generation model Veo, and the deal is expected to deepen its involvement in that space.

A hands-on model for creative AI

Instead of building technology in isolation, the partnership embeds DeepMind researchers directly into A24’s creative process. That approach lets filmmakers test and shape new workflows from the ground up. The studio gains early access to emerging capabilities, while DeepMind receives rapid feedback from working artists.

A24 joins a growing field

The deal brings A24 into a race where competitors are already active. Netflix and Prime Video are developing their own filmmaker tools, and Lionsgate is building models with startup Runway AI. A24’s move also arrives shortly after its biggest box office hit, Kane Parsons’ Backrooms. Parsons himself built a massive audience through Google’s YouTube platform, a detail that underscores how internet-native creators and AI tools are converging in modern filmmaking.
