Google is making several AI features in Gmail available to all personal users at no cost. According to Blake Barnes, VP Product for Gmail, the company is bringing the email service into what it calls the “Gemini era.”
The newly free features include Help Me Write, which allows users to draft or polish emails using AI. Users can refine their messages with options to formalize, elaborate, or shorten the text. The feature is accessible on web, Android, and iOS platforms.
Suggested Replies, an enhanced version of Smart Replies, now offers personalized one-click responses that match individual writing styles. Google states the feature analyzes conversation context to generate relevant replies in the user’s tone.
AI Overviews provide automatic summaries of long email threads. When opening a message with many replies, Gmail synthesizes the conversation into key points. The feature also allows users to ask questions using natural language to retrieve information from their inbox.
Google notes that more advanced capabilities, including the ability to ask inbox questions and a Proofread feature for grammar and style checks, remain exclusive to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
The company says these features are powered by Gemini 3 and are rolling out in the United States in English, with additional languages and regions planned. Google also previewed AI Inbox, a feature that prioritizes important messages, which is currently available only to trusted testers.
