Gemini Live wants to organize your day while you make coffee

Google is expanding Gemini Live with voice-driven task automation, daily summaries and Gmail controls. In an official Google Blog post, Neel Joshi announces that the update connects Gemini Live with Spark, Google’s system for handling longer, multi-step tasks.

The new Spark integration lets users describe a goal by voice and have Gemini carry out related work across Google Docs, Sheets, Drive and the web. According to Google, Spark can retain the task context and run scheduled work over days or weeks, including when the Gemini app is not open.

Google gives examples such as turning an unstructured spoken brainstorm into a document outline, or maintaining a weekly meal plan and generating a grocery list from recipes stored in Docs. Spark is available to subscribers to Google AI Pro or higher plans.

Briefings and email actions by voice

Gemini Live also gains a Daily Brief feature. Users can ask for a spoken overview of their day, and Gemini will combine relevant information from Gmail and Google Calendar. Google says Daily Brief is included with Google AI Plus subscriptions and higher.

A separate Gmail feature allows users to ask about new or urgent messages and then act on them by voice. Available actions include searching, summarizing, starring, archiving and deleting emails.

The company is also extending what it calls Personal Intelligence. This capability lets Gemini draw on past Gemini conversations and, if users connect them, services including Gmail, Photos, Search and YouTube. It is intended to answer personal follow-up questions, such as locating a previously discussed recipe or identifying a restaurant from an earlier trip.

Users need to opt in to app connections through Gemini’s Personal Intelligence settings. They can then start Gemini Live from the app’s Live icon and use natural spoken requests, with Gemini deciding whether to use a quick search, a briefing or a Spark task.
